FIRST GENERATION GRADUATE TUITION FEE CONCESSION FOR ALL ENGINEERING COLLEGE STUDENTS

Government have taken several initiatives to enable students from all sections of society to go for professional courses.  One such initiative is tuition fee concession to First Generation Graduate students admitted in First Year and Direct Second Year in all Engineering Colleges in the State through Single Window Counselling.

To avail tuition fee concession applicable for First Generation Graduates, students have to  obtain the “No Graduate” certificate issued by the competent Revenue authority and the same should be submitted at the time of counselling. The college to which candidate is allotted should provide tuition fee concession as per norms and collect only the balance fee prescribed. The amount waived to the students towards First Generation Graduate  concession will be reimbursed by the Directorate of Technical Education.

POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

From the year 2011-12 onwards, both Central and State Government are jointly implementing the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme with sole objective to uplift the socially backward students in Tamil Nadu. Under this scheme, all compulsory and non-refundable fees fixed by the Fee Fixation Committee, are paid for the students admitted under the Government /Management Quota in Self-Financing Institutions (including minority institutions).

This scheme is applicable for students belonging to SC, ST and SC converted into Christianity  categories but whose parental income does not exceed Rs 2.50 lakhs per annum. The fee concession is as detailed below.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ECONOMICALLY WEAKER STUDENTS STUDYING B.E / B.TECH FROM CHIEF MINISTER’S PUBLIC RELIEF FUND

The Government is providing financial ­assistance from Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to economically weaker section students at Rs.25,000/- each, to enable them to pursue their B.E / B.Tech courses.

The Government has enhanced the above financial assistance from Rs.25,000/- to Rs.50,000/- per student from the year  2017-18 onwards.  

The students benefitted under the First Generation Graduate Tuition fee concession are also made eligible to apply for the above financial assistance of Rs. 50,000/-.  

 POST GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP TO THE POST GRADUATE STUDENTS STUDYING IN GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGES

In order to encourage the poor students and to motivate the  bright students to opt for the Teaching profession and Research  activities, an Announcement was made by the Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education on 15.6.2017 in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to give PG Assistantship to the Post Graduate students studying in Government Engineering Colleges at Rs. 6,000 per month. The goal in view is the up scaling of postgraduate education, demand-driven Research & Development and Innovation.

The PG Assistantship is applicable only to NON GATE PG students admitted in Government Engineering Colleges through Single Window Counselling every year. Also PG Assistantship is applicable  to NON GATE students admitted in PG courses (M.E/M.Tech) in Engineering Subjects only.

        The PG Assistantship of Rs.6,000/- per month is remitted to the eligible NON GATE students in their respective Nationalized Bank Savings Accounts linked with AADHAAR Number through ECS mode every month on the same day of salary disbursement in line with the existing guidelines already adopted for salary disbursement to faculty and staff of the respective Colleges.

TUITION FEE CONCESSION TO  FIRST GENERATION GRADUATE STUDENTS OF SRILANKAN TAMIL REFUGEES

The Sri Lankan Tamil refugee students staying in Tamil Nadu have been permitted to participate in the counselling for admission to   B.E./B.Tech and Post Graduate courses M.B.A. /M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan from the academic year 2011-2012 onwards.

Tuition fee concession granted to the First Generation Graduate students selected for professional courses through Single Window Counselling in Tamil Nadu, has been extended to the eligible Sri Lankan Tamil refugee students.
