COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH POLYTECHNICS SCHEME(CDTP)
(Centrally Sponsored Scheme)
The Community Development through Polytechnics [CDTP] Scheme, which was earlier under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, has now been transferred to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship [MSDE], Directorate General of Training, Govt. of India with effect from 5.7.2017. This scheme is now implemented in 54 Polytechnic Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
Main objectives of the scheme
1. To carryout Need Assessment Surveys, to assess the technology and training needs
2. The impart Skill Development Training Programmes, to the intended target groups
3. To disseminate Appropriate Technologies, for productivity enhancement
4. To provide Technical & Support Services, to rural masses and slum dwellers
5. To create awareness among the target groups about technological advancement and contemporary issues of importance – Dissemination of information
Implementation
To implement the above activities, each Polytechnic College under the Scheme has established 5 to 10 Extension Centres covering a cluster of 10 to 15 nearby villages and implement the scheme on the basis of Annual Operational Plan approved by National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (NITTTR),Chennai. As per Ministry guidelines, each polytechnic college has to provide skill Training in 4 to 6 trades to 600 persons per annum. Training is also given on entrepreneurship development in order to make them self employable.
Every year around 30000 beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu are trained in different conventional and non-conventional short term skill development courses out of which around 15000 are either self or wage employed.
